After more than 4 months, I was absent from trekking stuff, Wilson Prom was my first time trek in Melbourne. I left the comfortable place in the city for seeking a pleasure in the forest.
I began my journey with trekking 30mt inside the city to get to our meeting point. The first thing that catch my eyes was everyone use a big trekking bag.(u know the one like TMC's for just a 3d/2n trek!!). The leader asked me whether I want to borrow a big bag from the club and of course I answered "NO!" Why I should bring extra space if all I need are perfectly fit in my bag?! Because of my curiosity I tried to lift up several bag and found that they were almost as heavy as I am. (This is my 2nd time bringing 12+kg for trek!). So.. No Problem, Right!!
After packing all bag inside 3 cars, we left city and immediately pass countryside. All I could see are several hill with ranch everywhere. I saw totally black cows, horses, sheep, and chickens. The other thing that I saw were just grass and farmhouse until we reached Tidal River.
It is a part of national park that is surrounded by sea and is used as a perfect campsite for a 'just out of a city' camp. You can found many toilet with shower, petrol station, cafe, and bbq's place. Even though I hate to admit, it has the prettiest night sky I ever had. It's prettier than my nights at Mt. Tahan. I saw emu galaxy, several constellations like Sirius, and planets on a really big open space with no branches or trunks. But one thing I couldn't understand was I couldn't see moon anywhere and that continued until I'm done my trek( or bush walk).
Our trek have 2 section where 1 is walking in a forest and the other is walking along the beach. The soil inside the forest is almost the same as at Bukit Tabur with difficulty like Mount Datuk. In the other story, walking along beach was the hardest part of this trek. We must put our weight deep inside the sand and move a little bit since the sand covered our feet til ankle' high and push we back to make a deeper footprint.
There is nothing much I could say about this trip than we trek the southest part of Melbourne and done a big circle until we back to Tidal River again. The places that we went through were Tidal River, Norman Bay, Mount Oberon, Mount Norgate, Wilson Promontory, Waterloo Bay, Refuge Cove, Kersops, and several other Mountains. I also got an experience with wombat where one wombat torn one of the tent and brought one bag inside the forest all by itself. We got a hard time to deal with them since they don't afraid with human and they are heavy! A kick won't help at all. We need to push them away or they'll do what they want. Another bad thing that happened was we got a heavy rain plus a very2 windy weather with sand blow away everywhere. Have u ever swum at a beach with clothes on? It worst than that!
